Trust Builds Bookings. We Build Trust.
Kay Walten — 35+ Years of Innovation, Leadership, and Impact in Hospitality and Tourism
For over three decades, Kay Walten has shaped how travelers experience destinations and how small businesses thrive within them. Long before “digital nomad” and “AI strategy” were buzzwords, she was building the systems that made connection, trust, and local prosperity possible.
In 1996, she launched one of Mexico’s first OTA platform, helping independent operators reach a global audience and paving the way for today’s vacation rental industry. What began as a way to connect travelers with local hosts became a movement that reshaped how people discovered Riviera Maya.
Since then, Kay’s work has focused on bridging technology and human hospitality and tourism. She developed AI-powered marketing and guest service applications for small businesses, built an online forum of over 100,000 travelers and locals, and trained hundreds of hospitality professionals to thrive in a changing digital landscape.
Today, Kay leads Smart Pineapple, a consultancy dedicated to helping vacation rentals, boutique hotels, and destinations grow direct bookings and create guest experiences that stay human in a world full of automation. She also shares her expertise as a guest lecturer and adjunct professor, preparing the next generation of tourism innovators.
